MARK YOUR CALENDAR
Precinct Meetings: Thursday, March 14 at 7:00 pm. We have THREE sites this time. Get all the details on the special Precinct Meetings page. This date is mandated by the State Democratic Party Bylaws.
County Convention: This meeting is also mandated by the state party to be held on this date. All newly elected precinct officers will advance to the County Convention as voting delegates. At this convention, we will elect new County leadership (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary) as well as electing delegates to the STATE convention. The delegates elected to the State Convention will be our county’s voice in state party business. These delegates are also elected to a two-year (2) term. That means these delegates will be responsible for electing the delegates to the Democratic National Convention to place into nomination the candidate who will run for President of the United States in 2020.
Saturday, April 6, 2019 … 10:00 am - 1:00 pm; J.D. McCarty Conference Center, 2002 E Robinson St, Norman, OK
State Convention: Delegates from all 77 counties will convene to conduct the business of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. Those who are run and are elected as state delegates should be prepared to serve their two-year (2) term understanding the commitment is an entire weekend. The Convention in 2019 will be standard business as shown below in the tentative agenda. In 2020, however, in addition to all the business listed below, the Convention will caucus and elect delegates for the Democratic candidates for President of the United States. These delegates will represent Oklahoma at the National Democratic Convention and will carry OUR vote for who we believe should face the Republican nominee in the General Election. As you well know, this is an EXTREMELY important task, especially in 2020.
Therefore it is important that those elected to serve as a State delegate be prepared to serve the full term and fulfill the duties that come with the title. You should remain ENGAGED with the county party, and if an unforeseen event arises prohibiting you from carrying out your duties, you will be up to speed on the issues important to the residents of Cleveland County and you will be familiar with those other active members in the county to whom you can sign over your proxy to attend in your place. Location for all of the below is TBA.
