Saturday, December 15 (rescheduled)
6:00 p.m.

The Norman Holiday Parade theme this year is "Merry and Bright in Lights"! And the start time is moved back to 6:00 pm to ensure it's dark enough for floats with lights to be enjoyed more!

We need many Democrats to walk with our float, hand out candy, and offer warm holiday greetings to those along the route!

Tyner Cornbread & Beans is currently on Winter Break. We will resume C&B luncheons on Friday, January 18th when Dr. Migliorino, Superintendent of Norman Public Schools, and Justin Milner, Chief Operating Officer, will present information on the 2019 Bond Issue.

CCDP's Cornbread & Beans is held at Westwind Unitarian Church, 1309 W. Boyd, Norman. Cafeteria style service will begin at 11:30 (cost $10 payable to the caterer). Of course, purchasing lunch is optional, and guests are welcome to bring a sack lunch. Our guest speaker will begin at noon.

General Meetings: These meetings will be important, especially if you have never participated in the Precinct Meetings before. At these meetings, in addition to discussing the latest county business, we’ll explain how the precinct meetings will be conducted, what business is expected to be accomplished during the meeting, and what happens AFTER the precinct meetings.

  • Monday, January 14, 2019 … 7:00 pm; Norman Central Library, Lowry Room

  • Monday, February 11, 2019 … 7:00 pm; Location TBA

  • Monday, March 11, 2019 … 7:00 pm; Location TBA

Precinct Meetings: This is the first of THREE extremely important meetings for the Democratic Party in Oklahoma. Precincts are the building blocks of the party, and every two years, we elect new officers (Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary) who are the “field directors” for our efforts to get Democrats elected. ALL REGISTERED DEMOCRATS residing in a precinct are considered voting delegates to your Precinct Meeting. All counties across Oklahoma will be meeting at the same time as mandated by the Oklahoma Democratic Party by-laws. You will gather as a precinct, elect your officers, and begin the important process of building the network in your precinct which is the life-blood of grassroots political action. Officers are elected to a two-year (2) term. PLEASE save this date and plan to attend!

  • Thursday, March 14, 2019 … 7:00 pm; multiple locations TBA

County Convention: Again, this meeting is mandated by the state party to be held on this date. All newly elected precinct officers will advance to the County Convention as voting delegates. At this convention, we will elect new County leadership (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary) as well as electing delegates to the STATE convention. The delegates elected to the State Convention will be our county’s voice in state party business. These delegates are also elected to a two-year (2) term. That means these delegates will be responsible for electing the delegates to the Democratic National Convention to place into nomination the candidate who will run for President of the United States in 2020.

  • Saturday, April 6, 2019 … 10:00 am - 1:00 pm; J.D. McCarty Conference Center, 2002 E Robinson St, Norman, OK

State Convention: Delegates from all 77 counties will convene to conduct the business of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. Those who are run and are elected as state delegates should be prepared to serve their two-year (2) term understanding the commitment is an entire weekend. The Convention in 2019 will be standard business as shown below in the tentative agenda. In 2020, however, in addition to all the business listed below, the Convention will caucus and elect delegates for the Democratic candidates for President of the United States. These delegates will represent Oklahoma at the National Democratic Convention and will carry OUR vote for who we believe should face the Republican nominee in the General Election. As you well know, this is an EXTREMELY important task, especially in 2020.

Therefore it is important that those elected to serve as a State delegate be prepared to serve the full term and fulfill the duties that come with the title. You should remain ENGAGED with the county party, and if an unforeseen event arises prohibiting you from carrying out your duties, you will be up to speed on the issues important to the residents of Cleveland County and you will be familiar with those other active members in the county to whom you can sign over your proxy to attend in your place. Location for all of the below is TBA.
